Crushed Birthday Cake Base

This once lovely battenberg cake has been stomped by someone with a big honkin' boot. It's now a mess of shredded marzipan, splattered apricot jam, and unfortunately crushed cake. The delicate checkerboard pattern has been flattened out, and now somewhat resembles kitchen sponges held together with orangey goop.
