In the darkest depths of the Prologue Pond, a great and terrible beast waits dreaming. It makes its home amongst the sunken wrecks of foolish adventurers who sought its treasure. Some believe it is as old as the pond itself while others claim it is far older still. A being born from the darkest corners of the subconscious, meant only to reside in legends too terrifying to speak aloud. A being that could only be brought into existence by the awesome and transcendent power of the Folklore Forest.

Whatever its mystical origins may be, the threat of the mighty Architeuthulhu is very real and very present in the deepest waters of the Prologue Pond. Fortunately, timid hunters can avoid the piercing gaze of its haunting yellow eyes by simply not wandering too far out from shore and staying away from inclement weather. However, hunters who are brave enough to take on this indomitable challenge must summon a storm as vile and menacing as Architeuthulu's wrath by arming Stormy Clamembert cheese. Once this volatile cheese breaks the surface of the water, Architeuthulhu will rise from its abyss with all of its valuable treasures in tow!

This tiny but fearless adventurer roams the shoreline of the Prologue Pond atop its trusty pet Griselda, the Ingenuity Grub. Together they search for lost treasures buried in the sand to add to their sizeable collection. Many of the other mice in the area find this precocious chap to be a bit of a nuisance but they tolerate the Beachcomber's shenanigans because of how thoroughly it cleans up junk from the beach.

This clumsy, nonchalant pond dweller lives his life with reckless abandon. He says what he wants, does what he wants, and pays no nevermind to how it affects his aquatic colleagues in the shallow end of the Prologue Pond. As a result, he's not the most popular fish in the pond but he swims with a smile on his face.

When it comes to hoarding Ingenuity Grubs, you'll find no mouse better or greedier than the Covetous Coastguard! He is a grizzled, prickly fellow who sees himself as an authority on the shores of the Prologue Pond. He's not afraid to get his feet wet or his hands dirty and can be found grub gathering rain or shine. He has a laser focus and a one-track mind so the only thing that can distract him from his search is the sweet smell of SUPER|brie+.

This is the most unfortunate, unfairly treated, and tragedy-stricken mouse to have ever existed in the entire history of Gnawnia and also no stranger to hyperbole. It is often referred to politely as being "a bit theatrical" and less politely as being "a whiny nuisance". Hunters that frequent the shallow end of the Prologue Pond will quickly become familiar with this mouse's incessant lamentations.

"O woe, O woeful, woeful, woeful day! Most lamentable day, most woeful day that ever, ever I did yet behold!"

This shifty, cantankerous deep water dweller is so old that she is often called a "living fossil"... but only a fool would say that to her face! Despite her age, she is a formidable opponent because although she may not be as fast or agile as she used to be, she has a hard stare that can reduce even the bravest hunter into cowering puddle of tears.

This aquatic aristocrat only hobnobs with the most exclusive and most shallow social swimming circles in the Prologue Pond. She dresses in the finest gowns, dons the most ornate jewelry, has perfected the haughty harrumph, and never goes anywhere without her beloved vanity pet, Gil.

This profitable prospector has turned Ingenuity Grub gathering into an exact science. The Sand Sifter has mapped out all the best digging spots along the Prologue Pond shoreline and has made a name for itself around the pond as a skilled, determined, and borderline obsessive gatherer.

This crafty, conniving creature has many malevolent tricks up his sleeve. He lurks in the deep end of the Prologue Pond where the water is as dark and murky as his intentions. Hunters are not recommended to make any deals with him lest they find out the hard way that with a Sinister Squid there is always a catch!

The Tackle Tracker is known for two things: she's fantastic at gathering Ingenuity Grubs and she's a terrible house guest. She has an unparalleled ability to track down useful tackle along the Prologue Pond shoreline but you can always tell where she's been because she leaves an enormous mess in her wake.
