Chichen Itza
Ruins of the Mayan civilization that flourished on the Yucatan peninsula. "Chichen-Itza" apparently means "by the spring". The Mayans spread over an extremely wide area. Their towns were centered on the pyramid-shaped temple with other buildings including a sacred spring, warrior's temple, and astronomical observatory.
