A monster from ancient Chinese mythology, it is depicted as a serpent with nine human heads and the ability to devour nine mountains. It served the evil god Gonggong, one of the Four Perils. According to the Shan Hai Jing, it was vanquished by Yu the Great, the first king of the Xia Dynasty.
